Exterior Home Improvements MN

Once again, exterior remodeling projects lead the way for recovery on dollars spent in this year’s Cost vs. Value survey.  When you compare the national averages, replacement projects that boost curb appeal, roofing, siding, and windows, give you the greatest chance of recouping your money.   Inside, only kitchen remodels can compare, at least on a national level.

Remodeling also allows homeowners to customize a home to meet their needs and desires, without giving up a familiar neighborhood or school.  Whether you are looking to add space, incorporate new amenities or accommodate lifestyle changes such as new children or aging, remodeling can provide an alternative to moving.  Adding a new master suite or playroom, finishing a basement or upgrading kitchens and baths always are popular projects, while modifications designed to allow residents to “age in place” are becoming increasingly widespread with baby boomers and retirees.

Priorities For Remodeling In 2010

Priorities For Remodeling In 2010 Include Energy Efficiency, Organization & Comfort

A survey of nationwide potential new home buyers and existing home owners who are planning home improvements found top priorities to include price, energy-efficiency, organization and comfort.

Today’s homeowner is also looking for a home that fits the entire family – from a multi-tasking home office, to expanding storage space needs, to a living room that can adapt to advancements in home entertainment and technology.

As a group, low-cost replacements — new siding, windows, doors and roofing — deliver the best bang for the buck now, a considerably better payback than from a two-story remodel or a kitchen remodel, also in terms of resale value.

Given great improvements in materials, you can replace your inefficient 10- or 15-year-old products with highly efficient ones for a decent return when you sell.  In addition, the improvements help you save on heating and cooling bills.  Replacing leaky windows with highly efficient newer ones is a good example.  The technology behind the glass and frames has so improved that you’re tightening up your home’s weatherproofing in the process.  You get more comfort, and, from a real-estate point of view, new windows show off your house from the street.

If you or someone you know has been affected by this powerful storm make sure that they understand the insurance restoration process that will follow.  Contact your local roofing contractor so they can document the damage before it’s too late!!

Has Your Home Received Storm Damage From The June17 2010 Storm That Went Through Minnesota?

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Storms can cause unidentifiable damage to your roof and requires a trained eye to catch.  Your roof is much more then just your shield from the elements, it’s the first part of your house to catch the rain and snow.  If there is damage to the roof small amounts of rain can seep in, leaving you with a larger repair in the future and one likely to come out of your pocket.  Insurance claims have expiration dates.  If you fail to file in the allotted amount of time you lose your right to claim the damage.  If you house has been hit by a storm and you would like a free exterior home inspection give us a call to set up your appointment.

Storms with straight-line winds or hail produce the most damage to your roofing and siding. Not to mention when your house has been hit the spots become an eyesore.  Little dents can eventually weaken, which will open your house up to water and possibly mold issues you will never see coming until it’s too late.  When in doubt, check it out.  Call a professional roofing contractor to set up your free exterior home inspection.

Hailstorms In Minnesota Have Homeowners Seeking Roofing Services After Deadly Tornadoes

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Minnesota Residents Urged To Check Contractors’ Credentials

Last week in Minnesota, hailstorms have many people looking for a reputable roofing contractor for their homes.  The thunderstorms produced widespread large hail damage in several counties.  Property owners should be advised to use caution when selecting a contractor, as there are unfortunately a lot of unscrupulous people trying to take advantage of an emergency situation out there.  Be aware of door-to-door salesmen who offer a “one time only” special pricing.  You should not be rushed into making a decision.

Contact a Minnesota roofing contractor to assist you in making that decision.  Get professional help to rebuild homes that have had wind/hail damage, or any other type of exterior damage that may have been caused by this wind and hailstorm.  They will inform you of the damage done to your home, assist you with your insurance claim, and provide quality workmanship and promptness in the process of repairing your wind or hail damaged roofing, siding, window, or structural remodeling needs.

If you live in this area of Minnesota and have a wind or hail damaged roof, siding, or any other exterior damage as a result of the storm, contact a professional roofer as soon as possible.

Minnesota Tornadoes May Have Set Single-Day Record

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Department of Public Safety recorded 39 tornadoes, 26 funnel clouds, 11 reports of damage from thunderstorm winds and 69 reports of hail in Thursday’s storms.  Wadena, Minn. to the northwest of the Twin Cities and Albert Lea to the far south were among the hardest hit.  If those 39 tornadoes are confirmed by the National Weather Service, it would set a new state record for tornadoes in a single day. The previous state record for tornadoes in a single day was 27 in 1992.

If your property has been affected by storm damage (hail or wind) make sure you understand the insurance restoration process that will follow.  It is crucial that you find a credible contractor that is trained in storm damage insurance negotiation.  If you are wondering if your property has been damaged by a recent Minnesota hail or wind storm, contact your local roofing contractor.  Minnesota Insurance Claim experts can help you identify and repair damage to hail damaged roofs, siding, gutters windows and other exterior home components.

Understanding Your Roof Warranties and Why They Are Important

Key Things To Look For In A Roofing Warranty

A new roof is a big investment, typically involving thousands of your hard-earned dollars and lasting 25 – 40 years or more.  With any big investment, knowing in advance what your warranty covers could save you thousands in the event that problems arise with your roof.

Essentially, there are two types of coverage that you should talk to your local roofing contractor about.  Key things to look for in your roofing warranty:

  • Warranty coverage against material defects
  • Warranty coverage against workmanship

You would be hard pressed to find a roofing product that does not come with a warranty against material defects; however your coverage will vary depending on the brand.  A typical industry shingle warranty will cover material defects for a period of 20 – 40 years or more.  The warranty on the other components of your roofing system (i.e. workmanship) can vary from as little as a few months to several years.  Remember that coverage against material defects is provided by the manufacturer, so select a brand from a manufacturer who is financially strong and therefore more likely to be in business for as long as you own your roof—which could be several decades!

We know that the general home owner can’t possibly know everything about home maintenance and repair.  If you can’t find the answer you are looking for below then please contact one of our expert roofing consultants.

Home Improvements Are “In!”
