Storm and Hail Damage Repair MN

How Did Your Home “Weather The Storm?”

The term “Storm Damage,” conjures up images of houses leveled by a tornado, or a roofs literally ripped off by powerful straight line winds that accompany severe storms.  That is storm damage at its utmost!  And when that happens in your neighborhood or immediate vicinity you give thanks that your home “weathered the storm.”  But did it “weather the storm?”

As a homeowner, you need to think of “Storm Damage” in more subtle and less catastrophic terms.  Just because your home is still standing following a severe storm does not mean that it was not damaged.  Hail, wind, rain and lightning are horribly destructive forces.  Months later you may find a roof leak caused by a storm that has long been forgotten.  Or you might notice a loose piece of exterior siding that was originally loosened by wind or hail a year ago and is just now starting to be recognized.  Insurance covering storm damage has time limits, which means you could end up paying for the storm damage repair out of your own pocket.

Whenever high winds, severe lightning, hail or ice storms visit your area, do not assume your home has escaped unscathed just because the roof and walls are still intact.  At times like these you need to call a professional roofing contractor and schedule an appointment for a free home exterior inspection.  The professionals at know where to look, and what to look for in determining if your home actually did “weather the storm.”  Their vast experience and keen eye can easily identify places where your home might have been subtly damaged or even weakened by severe weather.

If there is storm damage, no matter how minor, asking an expert will relieve you of the red tape and insurance headaches by filing the appropriate insurance claims and working with your insurance company to guarantee that your home is properly repaired.

Insurance companies hire professionals during the storm damage claims process, you should too!

The exterior of your home protects you and your family from the elements. And in Minnesota the elements can be brutal!  Consider for a moment that in Minnesota the temperature alone can vary as much as 130 degrees during any 6 month period.  Add to that the power of ice storms, lightning storms, rain storms, wind storms and hail storms, and you start to realize the beating your home exterior take in protecting you.

Storm Report Update as of 6/29/2010:

Has Your Home Received Storm Damage From The June17 2010 Storm That Went Through Minnesota?

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Storms can cause unidentifiable damage to your roof and requires a trained eye to catch.  Your roof is much more then just your shield from the elements, it’s the first part of your house to catch the rain and snow.  If there is damage to the roof small amounts of rain can seep in, leaving you with a larger repair in the future and one likely to come out of your pocket.  Insurance claims have expiration dates.  If you fail to file in the allotted amount of time you lose your right to claim the damage.  If you house has been hit by a storm and you would like a free exterior home inspection give us a call to set up your appointment.

Storms with straight-line winds or hail produce the most damage to your roofing and siding. Not to mention when your house has been hit the spots become an eyesore.  Little dents can eventually weaken, which will open your house up to water and possibly mold issues you will never see coming until it’s too late.  When in doubt, check it out.  Call a professional roofing contractor to set up your free exterior home inspection.

Clean Up Is Underway In Albert Lea Minnesota After Tornado Damage

Albert Lea, MN Dealing With Tornado Damage After Large Hail, Strong Winds Hit Area In Latest  Minnesota Storm

Clean up was under way in Albert Lea, Minnesota after series of spring thunderstorms hit the area with strong winds, hail and heavy rain.  Tennis ball-sized hail pelted the Albert Lea area.  Winds blew over semitrailers, ripped sheet metal off roofs and toppled barns and power poles.

You may not always be able to see the damage to your roof, but a trained professional can.  If the necessary repairs are not made immediately, your roof will begin to show “black spots” from the hail…breaking down your shingles.  LEAKS will soon follow!

What does hail do to a roof? Shingles are designed so that the granules block the UV of the sun and protect the asphalt underlayment.  As the shingles age the granules fall off over time.  As the asphalt is exposed the UV, it dries out and the shingle gets a “potato chip” appearance as the corners start to curl up.  A shingle at the extreme end of its life is bubbled in appearance and is brittle to touch.

Hail does several things:

  • Accelerates Granule loss
  • Accelerates shingle aging
  • Voids manufacturer’s warranties
  • Leads to other associated problems
  • What does a hail hit look like? A hail hit on a shingle looks like a “bruise” or a dark spot where the granules on the shingle have been knocked off and the asphalt underlayment and sometimes the fiberglass mat is exposed.  New hail hits will have a shiny appearance because the asphalt has been freshly exposed and has not had time to weather to a dull color.
  • Do I need to get my roof replaced right away? The insidious nature of hail damage is that it may pose no immediate threat to the structural integrity of the roof.  However, many insurance companies have a “statute of limitations” of how long a hail claim is viable.  If you have experienced a loss such as hail damage, it is prudent to take care of the problem in a timely manner before it leads to other associated problems.
  • Once again, City officials in Albert Lea, Minnesota are urging residents to check the credentials of anyone going door-to-door offering hail damage repair services.  Residents can ask all solicitors to show their identification and a copy of their city-issued license prior to discussing any potential services.  Don’t be afraid to ask for some references from previous customers.

Tornadoes Tear Across Minnesota

A powerful storm ripped through Minnesota today encompassing the entire state from North to South.  Several tornadoes touched down throughout the state including one in Wadena, Minnesota that has caused extensive damage.   Hail damage reports were recorded as far North as East Grand Forks, MN and as far South as Albert Lea, MN. Minnesota was left in a bad shape after a series of tornadoes ripped through the area.  The storms went wild forcing several homes, trees, and power lines to the ground.

Throughout Minnesota there have been over many hail reports filed with the NOAA’s National Weather Service.  The storm produced enormous hailstones of at least 1 inch in diameter.  The largest hail stone reported measured in at 4 1/2″ inches. There were 10 reported tornado touchdown reports filed with the NOAA within Minnesota.

If you or someone you know has been affected by this powerful storm, make sure that they understand the insurance restoration process that will follow.  It is crucial that you find a credible contractor that is trained in storm damage insurance negotiation. Minnesota Insurance Claim experts can help you identify and repair damage to hail damaged roofs, siding, gutters windows and other exterior home components.

Let LEI Fix Your Leaking Roof Right Now!

One of the most typical reasons for damage to your home is accredited to water.  Leaks of all sorts are frequent across the life of a structure.  From plumbing to weather, water takes its toll in regularly sophisticated and unnoticed fashion, until there is a problem.

Most houses that need leaky roof repair may remain unseen for a time.   Your house can suffer the major and pricey results of water damage if these events are left unrepaired.  Leaky roof repair should be on the head of the list the moment you see evidence of a difficulty.

Finding the exact place where the roof is leaking can often be a challenge.  You may also want to go outside and have a look at the outside of the roof.  If anything appears to be strange, like a wrinkle, buckle or missing pieces, you have most likely found the source of the issue.

The main consideration for deciding not to make the repairs yourself is not economics – it is safety.  Roofing is a risky business that is best left to the pros at Langerman Exteriors. Do not let this go untreated.  It won’t correct itself!

LEI is ready to help with any exterior repair or installation you may be dealing with.  We can handle everything with the insurance company from claim filing to final sign off.  Our insurance claim process is complete and efficient.  Call us for a free inspection of your property

Pick The Right Materials For Your Metal Roof

Residential roofing is a very competitive industry and it is critical to choose the best metal roofing materials for your home.  If you’re using a contractor to do the job for you, make sure do a little research on the metal roofing materials they provide.  This will make your decisions much easier.  However, if your contractor lets you choose these materials; make sure that you take the time to learn about what is available and which products are best for your roofing needs.  One thing you can be certain of, is that your choice of using a metal roofing system on your home, is one of the best decisions you can make to protect your home for many years to come.

Metal roof materials are much more complex than they used to be.  There are variety of styles, colors, and designs to choose from, allowing you to fully customize your metal roof any way that you like it. Take the time to see what is out there and do not limit yourself to a basic roof if you want something phenomenal.

Let’s Examine The Many Benefits Of Metal Roofing

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Why Metal Roofing?

Valuable Investment
While the initial cost for a premium metal roof is higher , you will save money in the long run.  A metal roof can last a lifetime, whereas other materials require reroofing every 0 to 20 years.  A metal roof can also increase the resale value of your home.  In some states, it can even lower your homeowners insurance.
Long Lasting
A metal roofing system offers unmatched durability, lasting 2 to 3 times longer.  Chances are good that a metal roof will be the last roof you ever install on your home.
Beautiful Variety
No matter what kind of roofing style, color, or finish you have now, there is a metal roofing style to match.  Today’s metal roofing looks just like common roofing materials, such as asphalt, shingle, clay tile, cedar shake, or slate.
Strong and Durable
A metal roof will never deteriorate, and can withstand almost anything Mother Nature throws its way.
Energy Efficient
Metal roofing in light colors reflects heat effectively to reduce cooling loads in the summer and insulate homes in the winter.
Long Warranties
Metal roofing comes with a true 30 to 50 year manufacture warranty, plus a workmanship warranty from the installer.  Talk to your Langerman Exteriors roofing contractor about the metal roofing warranties that are available.

The two most important factors in calculating cost are the style of roofing and the shape and pitch of your home’s roof.  We will come to your home, inspect your current roof, and then provide you with an estimate.

When you are ready for a new roof, you should really consider a metal roof as a serious option as it will not let you down and can be easily installed over your existing roofs!  If you are considering reroofing your home, please contact Langerman Exteriors today at 763-493-0049.
